Ananda uses an evidence-based approach to determine and address the factors contributing to your persistent pain.
As a Naturopath and Nutritionist she enjoys working with a wide range of clients across a varied range of conditions. Ananda considers herself a “general practice Naturopath,” but with a special interest in treating digestive health, autoimmune conditions, skin problems and helping people experiencing chronic pain.
Naturopathic medicine encompasses the use of both herbal and nutritional medicine. It is based on identifying and treating the causes of imbalance within the body, rather than just suppressing symptoms.
The cause of pain is inflammation, which is an immune response stimulated by the body to repair damaged tissues. The pain signals your brain receives are the body’s way of communicating with you to let your brain know something is wrong so that you can do something to help it to heal.
Over the last several years Ananda Mahony has been working extensively with clients experiencing chronic pain.
Her interest in pain management was born out of frustration that many clients who were getting referred to her seemed to be on a merry-go-round of treatment for chronic pain, but were not getting good results using standard naturopathic and medical approaches. It was her innate curiosity about what underpinned their pain and how to work more effectively with it that drove her to create a program that addresses the complicated issues associated with pain and ultimately brings about positive change for many clients.
Chronic pain is associated with a wide range of conditions including:
Ananda is passionate about keeping up to date with research and new approaches, and as a senior nutrition lecturer and student clinic supervisor and mentor she is able to do this and support new naturopaths and nutritionists on their journey.
Does pain affect your enjoyment of life?
Through embracing professional education, Ananda studied Human Nutrition at a post-graduate level at Deakin University and several years ago shifted her focus to a Masters in the Science of Pain Management at Sydney University to align more closely with clinical practice.
Her expertise in treating skin conditions came from personally experiencing adult breakouts and chemically sensitive skin in her 20s. She started by healing her own skin through natural medicine approaches and learning along the process. Since then she has focused on skin problems with her clients and has successfully helped 1000’s of clients with chronic skin problems for over 15 years.
